Patience is a virtue for Oakland Raiders
Nobody can disagree with the fact that it’s been a long season in the Bay Area for the Oakland Raiders. The team sits at 3-10 and are closer to the first pick in the 2013 NFL Draft than the playoffs, a major disappointment for a fan base thinking Oakland could be a sleeper to make the playoffs. However, when there is a coaching change, the new coach is trying to install a new system but, more importantly, a new culture.
This season could be described as a culture shock for the Raiders under new coach Dennis Allen. Oakland was the most penalized team in NFL history last season, so discipline was clearly an issue. That is exactly where Allen started his reform of the Raiders. The coach has already suspended Rolando McClain for conduct detrimental to the team, a suspension that officially came to an end Monday when the club reinstated the linebacker to the active roster. The reform of the Raiders into a more disciplined football team will take time as has been evidenced the last two weeks, when Oakland had a combined 19 penalties.
Allen has the Raiders on the track if the fans and team are willing to be patient and embrace the journey. Despite the confidence that this team could make the playoffs, this was supposed to be the start of a rebuilding process and a discovery of which areas Oakland needed to improve upon.
This season has definitely been frustrating for many fans and players and the fact the results aren’t coming is disheartening. However, patience is the only way the Raiders will get better next year. This team will get a high draft pick and start to improve in year two under Allen, but for now just grin and bear it–there are only three more weeks left in this miserable year.
