New York Giants May Miss Key Players
New York Giants’ RB Ahmad Bradshaw missed a practice this week with a sprained knee, so it is currently uncertain whether he’ll suit up on Sunday. Bradshaw was hampered by the injury in their win against the New Orleans Saints. RB David Wilson got the majority of the carries en route to his 100-yard rushing performance.
Bradshaw isn’t the only important player suffering from an injury. CB Prince Amukamara left the game against the Saints with a strained hamstring, and he has been unable to do much so far this week in preparation for Sunday’s game. These are two areas where the Giants can’t afford injuries, especially what’s at stake.
The Giants can easily go with Wilson to take over for Bradshaw, but because of the season-ending injury to RB Andre Brown, their depth at the position is very limited. Behind Wilson figures to be RB Kregg Lumpkin and RB Ryan Torain.
The bigger issue is the potential loss of Amukamara, however. The Giants have a little depth at that position, but they do not have any solid corners. The secondary has been a problem for the Giants all year, and with CB Corey Webster getting burned many times throughout the season, it’s safe to say Amukamara has been the most consistent corner on the team.
The Giants are going up against the Atlanta Falcons, who possess four good receiving threats in WR Roddy White, WR Julio Jones, WR Harry Douglas and TE Tony Gonzalez. The Giants need all of their corners healthy if they want to make it difficult on the Falcons’ offense. This game is indoors as well, so it’ll favor the Falcons.
It’s not set in stone whether these two will be out of action. We all know how tough Bradshaw has been throughout his career, playing through many foot and knee problems over the years. Head coach Tom Coughlin knows how tough Bradshaw is, so he’s definitely not counting him out until he physically witnesses that he is unable to go.
The Giants can pass more if they don’t have the depth to get anything out of their other running backs. The Giants don’t have that luxury in the secondary. If Amukamara is unable to play, the Giants will suffer. Hopefully, that isn’t the case.
