The Miami Dolphins will face the Jacksonville Jaguars this week, and word is they may be without a starter on offense, and on defense. We know Jake Long is OUT, but I am referring to new injuries that may sideline a few ‘Phins this weekend. (article on missing starter on defense – Koa Misi – is HERE)
Dolfans that defend Ryan Tannehill and his rookie season always point to the talent surrounding him on the offense, or perhaps lack thereof. Davone Bess is one of the best slot wide receivers on earth, but he may not be available this weekend as he is dealing with a back issue that is keeping him out of practise. The word is that the Dolphins are preparing for the Jags as if Bess will not be available for them on Sunday.
Bess missing this game would be significant as he has never missed a game in his five seasons. Bess has played in 77 of a possible 77 games. Impressive. Bess has at least one catch in 76 of his 77 games so not having him produce this weekend would be odd. Bess has a mere one touchdown this season, but having him in the slot is significant better than not having him in the slot.
Tannehill has targeted Bess 104 times this season. Only Brian Hartline has been targeted more (108). Bess needs just 43 receiving yards to get a new career-high for a season.
Bess averages catching three first downs per game. Earlier this week the Dolphins were awarded Armon Binns off of waivers from the Cincinnati Bengals. Binns thought he would play this week only if he was far along in his learning curve of the Dolphins offense. If Bess does miss this game then we will surely see Binns regardless of where he is on his learning curve (Armon Binns Player Profile is HERE).
