The Dallas Cowboys maybe the most injury prone team in the league this year, either that or there’s something in the water in Dallas because they have placed 13 players on injured reserve so far this season. If you count Jay Ratliff, who’s barely played all year, the total is 14 players. Not just any players either, but important players like Sean Lee, Bruce Carter, Barry Church and others.
Somehow the Cowboys have managed to play themselves into a position to battle for a playoff spot and their injury report this week is a who’s who of players on the roster. Let’s start with DeMarcus Ware, who hasn’t practiced all week with an elbow injury, among other ailments he’s been dealing with. Ware is listed as questionable and has been fitted for an elbow brace to due the injury. Ware says he’ll play but it’s not a guarantee.
Next comes cornerback Morris Claiborne, who’s been dealing with a concussion he suffered last week on the play where he cut his lip. Claiborne has yet to pass all the conditioning tests and is also listed as questionable. The Cowboys are thin enough at the corner position and losing another starter would be crushing. The Cowboys would turn to Mike Jenkins to take over if Claiborne can’t play.
Of course the other big name on the injury report is Dez Bryant. His situation has been well documented, he’ll attempt to play but how effective he’ll be is the biggest question? He’s listed as questionable, as is starting guard Nate Livings. What, you thought the list was done? Nope, Living, probably the Cowboys most consistent offensive linemen this season, is also having concussion issues but he did pass all his tests and appears ready to go.
Imagine this Cowboys team without any of those players on Sunday and they will be fighting an uphill battle. Think about if any other team lost their best pass rusher, best cornerback, best wide receiver and best offensive lineman on their team? That’s the reality the Cowboys are facing this weekend.
It looks as though at least three of these key players will play but injuries may effect their level of play so none of this is good news. Claiborne is the player we appears to be in the most jeopardy of not playing.
Another week, another terrible injury report for the Dallas Cowboys, just like it’s been all year long.
