The New Orleans Saints have been battling injuries all season long and some players have ended up on the injured reserve list. The Saints might have to put another player on the IR list before season’s end. Running Back Chris Ivory injured his hamstring and missed last week’s game against the New York Giants.

Ivory is very doubtful for this week’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and could be headed for the IR for the rest of the season. Ivory has given the Saints great production this season in the backfield and they will surely miss his power running.

On the season Ivory has rushed for 195 yards on 36 carries with two touchdowns. Ivory gave life into the Saints stagnant ground game and became a big part of the offense. Because of Ivory’s rushing ability he was able to fight for extra yards and gave the Saints a big boost when running back Darren Sproles missed some time with a hand injury.

Furthermore, Ivory helped the passing game a lot because the defense started focusing on him and that opened things up for Drew Brees downfield. Also, Ivory was used effectively in play-action situations and became a key contributor to the Saints’ balanced offense.

Ivory’s season has been incredible given that he has only played in five games. However, during his five appearances Ivory was always ready whenever his number was called. The Saints ground game should be okay if Ivory does end up on the IR as they are very deep in the backfield. Hopefully Ivory will come back next year healthy and be a key contributor in the offense much like he was in limited playing time this season.
