The Arizona Cardinals have placed three offensive linemen on the injured reserve list this year. Levi Brown has been out the whole year, Lyle Sendlein went out a few weeks back and Rich Ohrnberger is the most recent casualty. The entire team has been decimated by injuries, but the offensive line was already the worst in the league before Sendlein went out.
The Cardinals will use Scott Wedige this week and hope he can help the rest of this beat up offensive line block Detroit Lions DT Ndamukong Suh. He is one of the most controversial players in the NFL. Suh has been voted dirtiest player in the league two years running and this is only his third year in the league.
How do the Cardinals even try to stop such a beast in the middle of the field?
The easiest answer is the double team, but not running basic blocking schemes could confuse the third year player and maybe even slow him down a quarter of a step. Since the Cardinals can’t run the ball, this is almost impossible. Suh is going to bull rush the quarterback and get right in his face because he knows he will not have to worry about the run. The Cardinals pass block has been a problem all season long. If QB Ryan Lindley has pressure in his face all game long, it won’t be fun to watch.
Suh has ridiculous speed, power and quickness for his size and that makes problems for most opposing offenses. He has 5.5 sacks this season which is very good for an interior defensive linemen. The Cardinals will have their hands full as always this week with the rest of the Lions’ defense, but Suh will give them the biggest difficulties. The problem is if they can stop Suh it will leave the rest of the offense very vulnerable.
