The Best Defense in the NFL: Denver Broncos

A lot of people have danced around the issue, including me, for weeks now but the Denver Broncos have the best defense in the NFL today. Yes they gave up a couple of cheap touchdowns late but when the game was still competitive, the defense was dominating.

The offense for the Ravens could do nothing on offense and when they did put together a drive, Chris Harris intercepted Joe Flacco and returned for a touchdown that ended the drama for the day. Flacco was only sacked twice at the end on the contest but he was under pressure all day, and made two huge mistakes including the interception. Even when he had time to throw, the receivers for the Ravens could not get open and they did not record a first-down till halfway through the second quarter.

The Ravens talked all week about their desire to get back to the running game and getting the ball to running back, Ray Rice. That didn’t work either, the front seven for the Broncos completely shut down the running game and forced Flacco to beat them. Once the Broncos force a team to be one-dimensional as they did on Sunday, they pin their ears back and that’s all she wrote. As mentioned earlier, Flacco was only twice but he was uncomfortable all day.

The talk all season has been about the defenses for the Houston Texans, San Francisco 49ers and others but as we head towards the playoffs; this much is true. The defense for the Broncos is playing better than anyone else in the league, and that’s a recipe for success in January.
