Calvin Johnson Nearing Another NFL Record
There has been a lot of attention placed on Adrian Peterson approaching the NFL record for most rushing yards in one season. There is another record that could be broken that isn’t getting as much attention with the Detroit Lions’ Calvin Johnson getting close to Jerry Rice’s record for most receiving yards in one season. Johnson sits just 181 yards away from Rice’s record of 1,848 yards.
Johnson has games against the Atlanta Falcons and Chicago Bears left on the schedule with both games being at home. You can only expect more and more talk about this especially in Detroit where Matthew Stafford is going to be looking for Johnson even more than he does already. Johnson has already broke the record for most receiving yards over two straight seasons and now has his sights on Rice’s record. Johnson has a very real chance of doing this especially with Atlanta looking ahead to the playoffs and Chicago possibly out of the playoff race by the last week of the season.
There are many people who saw Johnson get picked No. 2 overall by the Lions several years back and thought he would be a very special player. Johnson has lived up to those expectations and more. Johnson has even avoided the dreaded Madden curse this season and may have a record year after being on the cover of the video game. Detroit fans deserve some success after many lean years and after a playoff appearance last season while Johnson just rewrites the record book along the way.
