Drew Brees threw four touchdowns in the New Orleans Saints shutout victory against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, Brees was not the only player that made a big impact on the game. Running back Mark Ingram has been playing well as of late and was huge for the team in Sunday night’s victory.
Ingram had a season high 90 rushing yards on 14 carries and he also had one rushing touchdown. What made Ingram’s game even more impressive is that it came against the number one rush defense in the NFL. Furthermore, with Ingram running the ball so well the Buccaneers’ defense had to focus on him a little more and that opened up the passing game for Brees.
The 49ers never really had a chance because if they weren’t getting burned by Brees in the passing game, then they were getting pounded in the ground game by Ingram. Ingram is turning into another reliable weapon for the Saints’ offense as he leads the rushing attack for the team.
Over the past two games Ingram has rushed for 158 yards and one touchdown and has been a consistent threat in the offense. Ingram seems to be finding his groove late into the season and while that is great for him as a player it does not mean much for this season.
However, with the way Ingram has been playing this season I think he is poised to have a breakout season next year, if he can stay healthy. As the season’s end is nearing the Saints are playing good football and Ingram is starting to become a legitimate number one running back. Next season Ingram will have a great year as he looks to get better and stay healthy.
