There is talk that the Buffalo Bills and veteran right guard Kraig Urbik are extremely close to coming together by agreeing to a new four year contract extension and a deal seems imminent. This is a great start to a lost season. I can only hope that left guard Andy Levitre and free safety Jairus Byrd are next as they are the big three free agents that need to be signed to keep the Bills from spinning completely out control.

This would be a wise signing as Urbik is a vital piece to this offensive line as a right guard, and in a pinch he can be a solid center as well if needed. In the last few years, it has been needed with center Eric Wood has been injured several times since being drafted in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft, of which Urbik was a part of as well.

Without extending Urbik, he was due to become an unrestricted free agent in March, and would have likely signed elsewhere with a team that needs a reliable interior lineman who can plow holes open for a feature running back. Also if  the Bills didn’t re-sign Urbik it would create a good sized need for them come next year’s free agency or even the draft despite there are other huge pressing needs.
