For those of you who don’t know, Miami Heat star LeBron James is a big Dallas Cowboys fan. In fact, he’s been known to tweet about them and has attended Cowboys games in the past. So it was no shock to hear him talking about the Cowboys playoff chances yesterday with the Heat in town to play the Dallas Mavericks.
“We got a chance,” James said. “That’s all you can ask for at this point. They got a tough game with Drew Brees coming in and that offense. They win that game and they end with Washington, but they got to take care of this Sunday first.”
Thanks for pointing out the obvious on both of those points LeBron. He is right though, if the Cowboys want to make the playoffs, they need to take care of business this week before looking ahead. He’s also correct when he says the having a chance is all you can ask for at this point.
My favorite part of what James said was his use of the word “we,” proving he’s just as big of a fan of the Cowboys as anyone else. It’s nice to see athletes commenting on other teams, in other sports in a positive way and not criticizing; I think it shows they are fans just like many of us. It also shows that not all athletes are only interested in just their sports.
There is nothing wrong with LeBron showing his support for the Cowboys but I would have preferred a more definitive stance saying the Cowboys would make the playoffs. Which goes back to something I wrote earlier this week regarding this Cowboys team, you’re either a believer or you’re not. With his comments, James seems to fall in the middle.
Come on LeBron, pick a side, do you believe in the Cowboys or not? Maybe we’ll find out after Sunday’s game.
