Will Jacksonville Jaguars Bring Tim Tebow Home?
Perhaps one of the most intriguing storylines on the horizon for this upcoming offseason is the fate of New York Jets backup quarterback Tim Tebow.
Earlier this week, reports surfaced from the Jets that they were planning on trying to move Tebow this offseason. This once again led to immediate speculation that Tebow would land back home with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Jaguars pursued Tebow last offseason when they offered the Denver Broncos a similar deal that the Jets gave, but Tebow reportedly choose to go to the Jets because he had a better chance to play quarterback. After the events of the season, it is clear that the Jets coaching staff has no faith that Tebow is capable of being an effective NFL quarterback.
The question is whether any team in the NFL thinks they can win with Tebow at quarterback?
The current Jaguars front office and coaching staff did not want Tebow as a quarterback, but after this season they will likely all be fired and a new general manager and coaching staff will likely be hired. Would a new general manager getting his first shot at running a team want to hitch his wagon to Tebow?
The only way I see Tebow in a Jaguars uniform in 2013 is if he agrees to change positions. If Tebow insists on remaining at quarterback, he may not be on an NFL roster at all next season. If he commits to a position change, not only does he become a more attractive talent to teams but he will likely lengthen his career.
Tebow is such an effective runner that it is hard to not see him having success as a short-yardage back or even tight end if he has good enough hands.
If the Jaguars are going to pursue Tebow this offseason, they need to do it for the right reasons and think he can actually contribute on the field. We saw this year what kind of negative effective he can have on a team if he is just brought in to sell tickets and generate attention.
