Denver Broncos: Playoff Scenarios
Everyone wants to talk about playoff scenarios this time of year and the more complicated they are the better it seems, but there is very little drama when it comes to the Denver Broncos. A ten game winning streak will do that. So while other teams are saying if we win and if they lose, then we are in; It’s called the “if” game and the Broncos aren’t playing.
While others, mainly in the NFC, are worried about what other teams are doing; the Broncos simply need to do what they’ve been doing for 2+ months now. Win! A victory over the 2-13 Kansas City Chiefs guarantees the Broncos the second-seed and a first-round bye in the AFC. They do not need any help or anyone else to lose; all they need to do is the same thing they’ve been doing.
The Broncos are also very much alive for the number one seed in the AFC. If they win on Sunday and the Houston Texans lose to the Indianapolis Colts, then the Broncos would clinch home-field advantage through the playoffs. It may sound like a long shot but frankly the Colts are playing better than the Texans right now; the big question is how will the Colts approach the game. They cannot help or hurt their position based on Sunday’s outcome. If they play to win, then the Colts have a great shot to win. If they decide to rest key players, then the Texans would have to like their chances.
There is a small chance that the Broncos could fall to the number three seed with a loss to the Chiefs. If that happened and both the Texans and New England Patriots won, then the Broncos would have to play on wildcard weekend. The Texans and Patriots winning is not a stretch, but the chances of Chiefs going into Denver and winning are slim to none.
In the end it really doesn’t matter what anyone else does; if the Broncos win then they are in great shape heading into January. Ten game winning streaks sure do take all the fun out of the “if” game.
