Tim Tebow Deserved More Respect from the New York Jets
I’ve always believed that things in life need to be earned. But everyone should have the opportunity to do so.
In the case of Tim Tebow, the New York Jets handled his situation completely wrong. While I am not suggesting he should have been named the starter, but from my vantage point, he was never given a fair shake by the Jets and head coach Rex Ryan. Considering the struggles of Mark Sanchez, Tebow deserved more than just a few snaps as a wildcat quarterback.
I do not believe that Tebow deserves special treatment. But at the same time, it appears that Tebow really never fit into the team’s plans during the season. With that being the case, they should have let him move on to another opportunity.
Tebow has way too much character to ever gripe publicly. There are many things that people can say about Tebow, but his character is beyond reproach. According to reports last Sunday, Tebow asked the coaching staff not to play him against the San Diego Chargers. If that is the case, I am going to believe there’s more to the story.
Let’s take this a step further. Since Ryan has been head coach, shenanigans aren’t a new thing. Two years earlier, trainer Sal Alosi tripped Nolan Carroll of the Miami Dolphins during a punt return. While the coaching staff denied responsibility, this tells me that Ryan and company aren’t running a clean ship. Even if Tebow expressed those feelings, it should never have left the sideline.
Ryan is a big phony, and his classless circus has tarnished the reputation of one of football’s good guys.
