Whenever a Pro Bowl roster is chosen, not every player will get the recognition he deserves. For the Denver Broncos, it is evident that when you are the only team in the NFL ranked in the top five in both offense and defense, you will have your share of starters, reserves, alternates and outright snubs. For the 2012 Broncos, they have an outright snub, and an alternate who would make a great case for being a starter.
For CB Chris Harris, who plays opposite Pro Bowl starter Champ Bailey, the ball seems to always find its way to his side of the field. And when it does, it usually does not end up well for opposing QBs or WRs. Harris has played out of his mind this year, and when he was given the starters role after Tracy Porter left with seizure symptoms early in the season, he has clearly shown he belongs.
On the season, Harris has 3INTs, 2.5 sacks, 59 tackles and one of his interception returns went 98 yards against the Baltimore Ravens, which completely turned the game in the Broncos favor. As Denver plays with a complete team effort, it might be an understatement just how much Harris’ play has meant to this team and their current 10 game win streak.
For WR Demaryius Thomas, I understand that he has Peyton Manning throwing him the ball, but the man can flat out play, and has proven to be one of the elite receivers in the game. Thomas has done nothing but post 87 receptions for over 1,300 yards and 9TDs, with a 15.1 yard average. Maybe it would be difficult to argue against A.J. Greene, Andre Johnson, Wes Welker or Reggie Wayne, but Thomas creates half of one of the best wide receiver tandems in the NFL.
So while we can celebrate the fact that Thomas is actually a first alternate for this year’s Pro Bowl, as a fan that sees Thomas week in and week out, it is hard to fathom him not making the squad. Harris on the other hand was an outright snub to not even get a recognition as an alternate. My hope, as it probably is for all Broncos fans, is that we do not get to see any of them in the Pro Bowl. Because, that would mean they were on to bigger and better things the following week.
