New Orleans Saints will most likely be playing the regular season finale without one of their starters. It was revealed that starting cornerback Jabari Greer suffered a concussion in Sunday night’s overtime victory against the Dallas Cowboys. With that said it is very unlikely that Greer will play in the season finale against the Carolina Panthers.
With the Saints out of playoff contention this means that Greer’s season is essentially over. This season Greer battled through a sports hernia he suffered during the off-season and he put up decent numbers in the 14 games he appeared in.
For the season Greer recorded 51 tackles and also had a career high with three interceptions. Regarded as one of the best cornerbacks for the Saints Greer did all he could for the team and their last ranked defense. I know I thought that the defense would do well this season under new defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo but it did not turn out that way.
Greer will be back next season and assume his starting left cornerback position. I also expect Spagnuolo to be back next season and one of the issues he needs to address is the secondary.
Greer was part of one of the worst secondaries in the NFL and that is an area the Saints must improve on. With Greer and some of the other cornerbacks and safeties on the team the Saints have the talent but could not catch on to Spagnuolo’s scheme right away. I would expect Greer to come back strong next season and ready to revitalize the Saints’ defense after a terrible season.
