As the season nears the end NFL Rumors will start heating up. For the New Orleans Saints the season will be over for all but at least two of the players. Punter Thomas Morstead and guard Jahri Evans were the only players from the Saints to make the Pro Bowl and will be representing the team in Hawaii. It is very likely that the Saints will hold on to the two Pro-Bowlers for as long as they can, but there are certainly some other players that are on the chopping block.

It is rumored that starting left tackle Jermon Bushrod might be playing his last game as a New Orleans Saint. Furthermore, Bushrod himself said that he could be done in New Orleans after this season. After the season Bushrod will become an unrestricted free-agent and could get a big payday from some team.

As of right now there have been no contract discussions between the Saints and Bushrod but I would imagine that Bushrod is high on the team’s priorities. It could be possible Bushrod is saying that he might not be back to put pressure on the Saints to give him a big contract. However, I think there is one person that will ultimately decide Bushrod’s fate and that person is Drew Brees.

Bushrod protects Brees’ blindside and Brees likes having him there. If Brees were to come out and say that he wants Bushrod to continue to be his left tackle than the organization should give their franchise quarterback what he wants. Bushrod is part of an offensive line that has only given up 24 sacks this season and it is evident that the offensive line is a big part of Brees’ success. Furthermore, Brees leads the NFL in touchdown passes with 39 and a lot of that has to do with the protection he receives from his offensive line.

Whether or not Bushrod will be back is still in the air and we will have to see how everything plays out. Two things are for sure though when it comes to Bushrod. One, his quarterback wants him back and that is important. And two, if the Saints choose not to re-sign him some other team will and the Saints will have to hit the market to find a replacement. Best-case scenario, the Saints re-sign Bushrod to a big contract and solidify their offensive line. However, we will have to wait and see what the Saints and Bushrod will do.
