Chicago Bears Must Clean House
The firing of Lovie Smith on Monday began the process of changes with the Chicago Bears and now the time has come to clean house by getting rid of several key players. Chicago has many holes to fill and the first thing that has to happen is for the team to trade Jay Cutler. I know that won’t be popular for many Chicago fans, but it is something that has to happen.
The biggest problem, I believe, was the willingness of Smith to be too nice to the players. That doesn’t work in today’s National Football League, so the team needs to find another coach who will get on the players. That coach would be Jon Gruden. If the Bears are smart, they will go out and talk to Gruden right away. It would at least give a different feel to the team.
The next thing would be getting rid of Cutler. Cutler is not a championship quarterback and has proved that over the past few years. He is too dependent on Brandon Marshall.
The fans in Chicago aren’t going to put up with much more of not making the playoffs. While the iron is hot, Phil Emery needs to make a big stand and make major moves with this team. It should start with Gruden and include getting rid of Cutler. It is a new time for Chicago and their new coach should be someone who goes with the city at large. I really hope that the right moves are made–or it may be time for another change in a few years.
