To the Fans of the Denver Broncos: One Game at a Time

The fans of the Denver Broncos need to take their cue from the team they follow; they also need to find a happy medium. For most of the season, it seems like a lot of fans have been overly critical of the Broncos even as they were winning eleven in a row. Now that the regular season has ended and the Broncos have secured the top seed in the AFC; their fans have turned their focus to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game.

After a season of trying to convince people that the Broncos are a very good football team; I now find myself issuing words of caution. Don’t get me wrong, the Broncos and their fans have every right to be extremely confident as the playoffs begin but take it one game at a time. Does that sound like a familiar phrase?

It should, that’s what the Broncos have been saying for eleven straight weeks now and it seems to be working. Everyone who is not a fan of one of the other AFC team’s wants to see the Broncos and Patriots in the AFC Title game, but there is work to do. On January 12th, a good team is going to go into Denver with every intention of knocking off the top-seed in the conference. No one knows this better than Peyton Manning and John Fox, and the fans need to put the Patriots talk on the back burner. There’s still work to be done before the Broncos get to that point.

As for what the fans should be doing now; there are a couple of things. The first is just enjoying this week and the regular season that the Broncos have just completed; it was a remarkable one. Secondly, watch the playoff games this weekend and pay close attention to the two AFC games. The Broncos first playoff opponent will come out of those games and that’s where the focus should be.

The Patriots have work to do themselves but if both teams happen to meet in Denver on January 20th, then there will be plenty of time to talk about it. Until then, however, any talk of the Patriots is premature.
