Casey Hayward shocked a lot of people this year. The second round pick of the Green Bay Packers exploded onto the scene as he emerged as a ballhawk at the cornerback position. For his efforts, he has already brought in one Defensive Rookie of the Year award.
ProFootballFocus.com has named #Packers CB Casey Hayward its NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.

If you want to know well he did in metrics, he ended up winning an All-Pro spot as the slot corner in the same rankings. As a rookie. He had the second highest cornerback grade from ProFootballFocus as well. That is simply insane for a guy who really didn’t play a whole ton of snaps.
Green Bay has a great corner on their hands here. He is only going to get better with time and experience. If he could play this well out of the gate, imagine how he will do with more experience under his belt. This could be the making of another shutdown cornerback to play for the Packers. They have had some very good ones in recent years and Hayward might end up as the best one of them.
Of course, Hayward has his eyes set on a bigger prize. The Packers have a playoff game on Saturday and I bet the rookie wants to win a Super Bowl more than a ROY award. Individual awards are great but bringing home the Lombardi Trophy would top every honor he could earn.
