NFL Rumors: New Orleans Will Let Go Of A Wide Receiver In The Off-Season
The New Orleans Saints finished the season off with a 7-9 record and will look to improve upon that mark next season. Since the Saints missed the playoffs this season their off-season has already begun. This means that NFL Rumors will be heating up and that means some players will be on the move.
One player that will likely be on the move from the Saints is wide receiver Devery Henderson. Henderson had a horrendous season as he had a career low 316 receiving yards. Furthermore, Henderson only had 22 receptions this season and was only targeted 47 times and caught one touchdown.
To put Henderson’s season in perspective two other unlikely players had more receiving yards than him. Running back Pierre Thomas had 39 receptions and 354 receiving yards and one touchdown. Drew Brees threw the ball more to the number three running back than he did to his supposed number two wide receiver. Furthermore, wide receiver Joe Morgan had 379 receiving yards but he incredibly got those yards off of only 10 receptions. Also, Morgan three touchdowns this season compared to only one that Henderson caught.
With Henderson being a free-agent in the upcoming off-season I do not see the Saints re-signing him. The Saints seem pretty set with Marques Colston and Lance Moore as the number one and number two receivers respectively. Also, with the potential of Morgan and Nick Toon Henderson seems to be the odd man out.
I would be surprised if Henderson returned to the Saints next season but I am sure another team will pick him up. Henderson just had a bad season and with talented receivers emerging on the Saints the timing could not have been worse. The Saints will be okay without Henderson and sometimes teams and players just have to know when to part ways.
