Terrell Thomas. Remember him New York Giants fans? Well, he’s among the many on the team that are free agents this off-season. He’s rehabbing from another torn ACL and will look to continue his playing career. Will it be at a different position though?
New York Giants General Manager Jerry Reese was on Mike Francesa’s radio show yesterday, and said that the Giants may bring Thomas back but not at corner, at the safety position. Thomas has only played corner in his career with the Giants and was a corner in college. Here are some things that come to mind with that statement.
One, does that mean Kenny Phillips is done with the Giants? Thomas would certainly come cheaper, especially coming off not one, but two ACL surgeries. He could fit their three safety look and probably play free safety or maybe even the slot corner, though Antrel Rolle is pretty good at that.
Secondly, it leaves a hole at corner, especially if they release Corey Webster as well. They need Jayron Hosley to develop, along with Prince Amukamara to continue his improvement and fast to give them another option, otherwise, they may have to use another draft pick or go spending in free agency on a corner, or maybe even both.
It will be interesting to see if this indeed comes to fruition. Thomas has led the team in tackles before in his career, but if he moves to safety it will certainly be an adjustment. It’s something to watch as the off-season develops.
