The Washington Post has reported on Robert Griffin III‘s injury:

‘’The MRI exam of Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III’s right knee shows that Griffin has suffered possible partial tears of his anterior cruciate and lateral collateral ligaments, according to several people with knowledge of the test results.’’

Griffin is going to Pensacola, Florida tomorrow to visit orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews, but the early outlook does not look good. It’s not currently known if he will require surgery, but an unnamed source said that Griffin might have to have exploratory surgery to examine the damage.

Griffin tore the ACL in his same knee in 2009 while he was in college at Baylor, and has been playing in recent weeks with a mild sprain of the LCL.

Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan is going to catch some heat in this off-season and deservedly so. He mentioned Adrian Peterson’s amazing ACL recovery in his press conference this afternoon, which hinted at disaster for the Washington Redskins’ off-season. Shanahan has mishandled this injury from the moment it popped up.

A report surfaced Saturday that Dr. Andrews did not talk to or examine Griffin when he initially hurt his knee in week 13. Griffin came back for 4 plays before his knee swelled up on him and then he was done.

And I am too angry to even write, talk, or think about what happened on the field Sunday. That was such unbelievably bad decision-making by Shanahan, and it might be time to pass the torch to his son, offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan. The elder Shanahan has mishandled the future of the Washington Redskins franchise, and fans deserve the right to be able to question his job security.

Kirk Cousins… you better be ready.
