In what is always a fun way to spend a day, there was something the young people like to call a ‘Twitter War’ yesterday between the Dallas Stars and Dallas Cowboys. It began when dallascowboys.com writer Josh Ellis tweeted that pitchers and catchers report to spring training in just six weeks. The story took off from there.
The Cowboys twitter page added to that by tweeting, “Similarly in the category of nobody-cares…the NHL is back!” The tweet has since been deleted.
To which the Stars twitter page cleverly responded “At least our #9 got the job done.” That refers to former Dallas Stars player Mike Modano winning the Stanley Cup with the Stars back in 1999.
I’ll be honest, I can’t disagree with the Dallas Cowboys twitter page, I could care less about hockey. And to be even more honest, not many people do. It’s the least popular of the four major sports and it ranks around seventh in terms of popularity, behind both the NFL and college football, the NBA and college basketball, MLB and Nascar. There was a lockout over three months long and only a few people were angered by it.
I’m not saying it’s a bad sport, just that the general population doesn’t care about the NHL and the Cowboys twitter page was right.
Both sides have squashed their ‘beef’ though since the Dallas Cowboys twitter page apologized for the tweet and wished the Dallas Stars good luck on their season, which the Stars twitter page accepted. I think it would’ve been much more fun if they didn’t accept and the people who run their respective twitter pages settled it the way hockey does, but it appears all is forgiven.
