The Arizona Cardinals continued their coaching search in Denver. The team met with the Denver Broncos OC Mike McCoy in hopes of finding their next top dog. Cardinals Team President Michael Bidwill is serious about finding the best coach for the position, so don’t expect this to be the Cardinals last stop on a cross country tour to find the best candidate.
McCoy has been impressive this year, but the Cardinals are more curious about what he did in the 2011 season with current New York Jets QB Tim Tebow. McCoy made him look like an NFL caliber quarterback, this is impressive considering he really isn’t. The Broncos made it to the playoffs and beat the Pittsburgh Steelers with Tebow completing less than 50 percent of his passes throughout the season.
McCoy also helped Peyton Manning adjust to a new system, but after a couple of weeks, you could tell Manning was once again on his own. Manning makes coach’s job easier, but the Broncos had one of the top offenses in the league and that is something that you cannot ignore.
The Cardinals will get a much needed boost in the offensive game plan if McCoy is the direction they decide to go in. They were the worst in the NFL at the quarterback position and their offensive line gave up more sacks than anybody in the league. If he does get the call, he would be smart to name QB Kevin Kolb the starter and forget about any competition for the number one spot. Kolb needs confidence and it starts with unwavering faith from the head coach from the moment he signs on the dotted line.
