Former Dallas Cowboys Defensive Coordinator Rob Ryan Talks Tough On Way Out Of Dallas
Former Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, never one to keep quiet, continued his braggadocious ways on his way out of Dallas. According to Ryan, the Cowboys should have been 9-1 or 10-0 after the first 10 games of the season because they had a top 10 defense in the NFL. At that point in the season, the Cowboys were 5-5.
For a guy who said he had no sour grapes, it appears as though he’s taking a shot at someone on the Cowboys. That someone appears to be head coach Jason Garrett and Ryan’s target appeared to be the Dallas offense.
I find it interesting that Ryan mentioned the first 10 games, because after that the Cowboys defense did head south and wound up finishing 19th overall in the NFL. Yes, we all know injuries played a part in it but that excuse has grown tiresome. What was Ryan’s excuse for only causing only 11 turnovers in the first 10 games? Or for having his best pass rushers in coverage on third downs?
Looking at the final six games, it was the Cowboys offense carrying them and the defense letting the team down. Dallas’ offense scored over five points more per game in their final six contests than they did in the first 10 games so the offense was doing its part. Was Garrett and the offense perfect? Not at all but Ryan has no right to point fingers.
The NFL is a team game and the Cowboys weren’t good enough on either side of the ball so there is no need to make claims after your team has failed. But Ryan has never been one to stay quiet and he also let loose with this gem;
“I did a good job. I know it. If anybody thinks I didn’t, they’re full of (expletive).”
Stay classy Rob Ryan, stay classy.
