Fans are always looking to name their favorite athlete something in hopes that it will stick. Some athletes don’t let that happen. Los Angeles Lakers Star Kobe Bryant nicknamed himself the “black mamba”. Seattle Seahawks CB Richard Sherman called himself “Optimus Prime”. I don’t think it’s fair when players nickname themselves. It’s something the fans have earned, but not in the case of Denver Broncos Wide Receiver duo Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker.

The fans could not have picked a better nickname, so I am going to let this one slide. “Black and Decker” has to be the best nickname in the NFL. The players call themselves by the name and it couldn’t be a more perfect fit. Apparently, the two are good friends and they are enjoying their best season as pros.

Any player coming off a year with New York Jets QB Tim Tebow as their quarterback is sure to have some depressing stats. Thomas went from just 551 yards in 2011 to almost 1,500 yards in 2012, almost tripling his numbers. Decker went from 612 to over 1,000. Of course, Peyton Manning does have more than a little to do with that, he is really good and Tebow is really bad.

The Broncos are playing their first playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens. Manning is 9-0 in the past 9 games, and the Broncos are on an eleven game winning streak. This game could get out of hand in a hurry. Whatever the outcome, you can be sure “Black and Decker” will play a big role.
