In the midst of all the head coaching changes in the National Football League, there is a name that comes to mind that could be the next big coach. That would be Dave Toub, who has been the special teams coach for the Chicago Bears over the last number of years. If the Bears were smart, they would consider giving Toub a chance before he goes off to another team.
Toub has shown with the Bears special teams that he can make things happen. He has obviously had Devin Hester returning punts and kickoffs with great flair and excitement in the past but the time has come for Toub to get a move up the coaching rankings. It is obvious that the Bears players all know Toub and would love to have him stick around. The main problem would be the fact that the team might want to clean house entirely after firing Lovie Smith.
That would be a mistake when there is a coach as talented as Toub on the staff. There have been reports that Toub has interviewed elsewhere and whatever team he lands with is going to get a very talented and motivated coach. This is why Chicago must consider the idea of just having Toub become their coach. There have been special teams’ coaches who have moved right up to the head coaching position in the past. I’m sure fans in Chicago can think of one right away who brought them great success in Mike Ditka.
Could Toub be the next Ditka? We will have to wait and see.
