The 2012 season for the New York Giants was a disappointment. The defending Super Bowl Champs did not win the division and didn’t make the playoffs. With that in mind, I’ve decided to do a year in review for some of the Giants players, and over the next couple of weeks we’ll be taking a look back at 2012 and figure out what may be in store for 2013. So to kick this off, we will start with quarterback Eli Manning.
2012 stats: 59.9% completion percentage, 3,948 yards passing 26 touchdowns, 15 interceptions.
2012 game of the year: Manning certainly finished his season on a high note. Manning threw for 208 yards and five touchdowns in the last game of the season against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Where 2012 went wrong: Manning went through a three-game stretch where he didn’t throw a single touchdown. They went 1-2 in those games. They also got blown out by the Atlanta Falcons in a game where he didn’t throw any touchdowns either.
2013 Outlook: Eli isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Franchise quarterbacks don’t grow on trees, especially ones with two Super Bowl Rings. However, he may have to take a little bit of a pay cut, or restructure his contract to help the team out, since they are right now over the cap and still have to re-sign key guys like Victor Cruz. You would like to see a little more consistency out of him as well, though having some skilled position guys like Hakeem Nicks at full strength would be helpful.
