Arizona Cardinals Miss Out on Denver Broncos OC Mike McCoy

The Arizona Cardinals are late to the game again. Sources say Denver Broncos OC Mike McCoy will take a position as the head coach of the San Diego Chargers. The Chargers are a better fit for McCoy because there is less of a rebuilding project on the offense. That leaves two candidates ready and experienced enough to take the most important coaching role on the sidelines, DC Ray Horton and Cincinnati Bengals OC Jay Gruden.

Arizona’s commitment to taking their time backfired and they will not get the best candidate to lead them to victory right now. The Cardinals and Chargers both needed innovation to dig their teams out of a hole that could only be considered embarrassing. The Chargers saw that before the Cardinals did and hammered out a dead as fast as they could. Team President Michael Bidwill and Gm Steve Keim cannot keep waiting to make this decision.

Waiting can only mean two things:

1. The team is not impressed with any of the candidates and is still searching the country to find what works for them.

2. The team does not want to get in a competitive price war over a potential candidate, so they are waiting until all head coaching positions have been filled.

I still believe McCoy was the best realistic candidate on the market. The team has either kept their coaching search very secretive or they are not doing enough to find the best man. Right now, I do not have faith in what the leaders of this team are doing.
