NFL Rumors: Sean Payton Already Has Someone In Mind To Replace Aaron Kromer
With former New Orleans Saints offensive line coach Aaron Kromer leaving for the Chicago Bears, it leaves a void on the Saints’ coaching staff. When head coach Sean Payton comes back to work following the conclusion of the Super Bowl, he will have many issues to address. The latest issue Payton will have to address is the departure of Kromer.
General Manager Mickey Loomis has said that Payton will have the final say over the coaching decisions for the Saints. Payton must be itching to get back to work so he does not miss out on the people he wants for his staff. One name that has been thrown around recently is Tony Sparano, the former offensive coordinator of the New York Jets.
Apparently Payton has wanted Sparano on his staff since he came to New Orleans back in 2006. Furthermore, Payton and Sparano worked under Bill Parcells from 2003-2005 for the Dallas Cowboys and they clearly have a good working relationship.
Sparano coming to the Saints seems like it would be mutually beneficial. The Saints would be getting an excellent offensive line coach to replace Kromer. As for Sparano, he would only have to focus on the offensive line and not have to worry about play calling or the stress of running an NFL team.
Payton’s respect and clout will come into play when it comes to bringing Sparano in for the offensive line coach. Payton would obviously like to speak with Sparano personally about the open position, but Payton will not be reinstated until after the Super Bowl. Furthermore, Sparano is meeting with the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday to discuss becoming their offensive line coach.
Best case scenario is that Sparano declines the Chiefs’ offer and waits for Payton to come back. Sparano would be a great fit for the Saints, but only time will tell if he will still be available for the Saints to sign. If the Saints do not get Sparano, they will “move on to the next one” and I am sure they will find a good replacement for Kromer.
