With the San Francisco 49ers playing against the Baltimore Ravens in Super Bowl XLVII, Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin will now be participating in the 2013 Pro Bowl and with the type of year he displayed as a rookie–there’s no question he deserves it.
Everybody knew Martin would have the chance to split carries as a rookie during the 2012 season, but nobody could have predicted him to have the type of impact he had for the Buccaneers so quickly as he finished the year with 1,926 yards from the line of scrimmage to go along with 12 total touchdowns. Martin is smaller than most running backs in the league, but it gives him an advantage compared to other players as it makes him more difficult for defenders to contain.
If 2012 is any indication of what’s in store for Martin, the running back appears to have a bright future in the NFL as he hopefully will get better with the more experience he gains. There were plenty of other running backs that should have been considered for the Pro Bowl, but it’s safe to say no running back was more deserving than Martin.
The Buccaneers knew they had something special in Martin when they selected him in the 2012 NFL Draft and now–it appears they may have found their running back of the future who could also turn into one of the most dangerous threats from a fantasy football perspective as well.
