The Dallas Cowboys are always seemingly in buy mode. Could it be possible that they decide to go in “sell mode” with one of it’s talented wide receivers? Miles Austin is certainly talented and he’s had a few real nice years, however, I believe his consistent injuries could make him an attractive sell piece to a team that badly needs a WR. The Cowboys have Dez Bryant and a slew of young receivers that could develop into what Austin already is, so it’s not absurd to think this is a good option for Dallas.
I look at it like this. If you can pick up a 2nd and a 4th from a team, the Cowboys will be able to fill a ton of holes in this years draft class. You can also go out and sign a free agent WR to fill the gaps while guys get acclimated with the Cowboys system. You also shed his salary which is certainly up there.
If Miles Austin continues to get hurt, he’s going to serve no value and the Cowboys won’t be able to maximize their investment on Austin. This team needs a lot of help in a lot of areas and if you can get the right deal, it makes sense to me.
With all this being said, I would ONLY trade Austin if the Cowboys can get what they would be asking for. There’s no sense to dump Austin as is, at least to me.
I want to reiterate that I don’t know if this is a move the Cowboys are interested in, but if I were the Cowboys, I’d at least kick the tires around the league and see who could be interested.
