There has been a lot of talk surrounding Chicago Bears’ middle linebacker Brian Urlacher recently and he has come out and said that he would like to stay with the Bears. Urlacher is set to be a free agent this off-season and, despite being 35-years old, he could still field some offers.
Urlacher has been very injury prone and understands that he might only have a few seasons left in the NFL and he is hoping they will be with the Bears. Urlacher wants to end his days with the Bears so much that he is even considering taking a pay cut to do it. When talking about a new contract Urlacher had this to say,
“When you look at my age, it’s going to be hard to not give them a discount…I’m not going to make what I was making in the past, how about that? Does that make sense? That’s fair.”
Urlacher is being realistic and knows that he will not make nearly as much as he did before, but the fact that he is willing to take a pay cut means that he only wants to ever wear one uniform, a Bears uniform. Urlacher has been the heart and soul of the Bear’s great defense, and it would be hard to imagine him wearing any other colors besides blue and orange.
Urlacher has definitely lost a step or two but he is still very valuable to this Bears defense. Urlacher is a very smart player and always seems to know when to make the right play. Furthermore, Urlacher is constantly guiding his teammates where to be and is essentially the quarterback of the Bears defense.
In the end, I think Urlacher stays with the Bears, and it will be at a discounted price. Let’s face it, Urlacher will always be a Chicago Bear.
