When the Chicago Bears fired Lovie Smith and hired Marc Trestman it was clear which direction management wanted to go in. The Bears’ calling card has been defense for the past few seasons, but with Trestman’s hiring, the team is clearly shifting its focus to the offensive side of the ball.

One of the biggest beneficiaries of the offensive minded Trestman figures to be wide receiver Brandon Marshall. Marshall had a career year this past season in which he had 118 receptions for 1,508 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. Marshall and quarterback Jay Cutler obviously click very well going back to their days with the Denver Broncos. Cutler almost exclusively threw the ball to Marshall this season, but with the new offense, the Bears’ quarterback should mix it up.

I would expect Cutler to look for Alshon Jeffery more in his second season and the young wide receiver could have a breakout year. Jeffery actually draws comparisons to Marshall and if he can continue to develop he can be quite a weapon. In 10 games Jeffery made 24 receptions for 367 receiving yards with three touchdowns.

Marshall will be working out with Jeffery this off-season and I think Jeffery can learn a lot from his fellow wide-out. I know Jeffery will only be in his second season next year but something tells me that he will take a huge step in his development.

Jeffery is very talented and coupled with Marshall the Bears could establish one of the best wide receiving duos in the NFL. Marshall is clearly one of the best wide receivers in the NFL and under Marshall’s tutelage Jeffery could soon be on his way.

The Bears will be a team to watch out for next season as the offense should be very much improved with the threat of the Marshall-Jeffery combination.
