Richard Dent to Carry the Super Bowl XLVII Trophy to Winning Team

Jerry Lai-USA TODAY Sports

Super Bowl XX MVP and Hall of Famer Richard Dent will carry the Lombardi Trophy to the winner of Super Bowl XLVII between the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers. Dent won the trophy while a member of the 1985 Chicago Bears and current 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh was a teammate of Dent’s after the Bears’ Super Bowl season.

Dent is one of the NFL‘s all-time leaders in sacks with 137.5 sacks with the Bears (twice), 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles and Indianapolis Colts. Dent was drafted by the Bears in 1983 in the eight Round (203) and was considered a project from the get-go. What helped Dent the most was having dental work done that allowed him to gain weight and the rest is history. He went on to be one of the league’s most feared pass-rushers and a Hall of Famer in 2011.

He may be most famous for his singing of the Super Bowl Shuffle, a song performed by the Super Bowl winning Bears. Dent’s lines went:

The sackman’s comin’, I’m your man Dent. If the quarterback’s slow, He’s gonna get bent. We stop the run, we stop the pass, I like to dump guys on their @**! We love to play for the world’s best fans, You better start makin’ your Super Bowl plans!”  But don’t get ready or go to any trouble unless you practice The Super Bowl Shuffle.

He may not have been the best singer, but he certainly is an all-time great. It will be very cool seeing him with the trophy on Sunday.
