The Indianapolis Colts should be among the league’s best teams in the 2013 regular season. They have the most cap room of any NFL franchise out there. They also have most of their core guys coming back after improving so much in their 11-win rebuilding season. The team overachieved and won 10+ games last year with the third easiest schedule in 2012.
It was announced today that the Colts, for the second straight season, will have the third easiest schedule. If they won 11 games with the third easiest schedule last season and have all of the accolades I stated earlier, there’s no doubt they can’t win 12 or 13 games at least next year.
The Colts host the Denver Broncos, Oakland Raiders, Miami Dolphins, Arizona Cardinals, Seattle Seahawks and all three AFC South teams (Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans) to go along with traveling to those AFC South teams, Kansas City Chiefs, San Diego Chargers, Cincinnati Bengals, St. Louis Rams and San Francisco 49ers.
Only five of their opponents made the playoffs in ’12 and two of them are at home. The Colts went 7-1 in Lucas Oil Stadium last season, with their only loss coming to the hands of the Jaguars in an upset during Week 3. It’s safe to say Andrew Luck and the boys will be playoff bound and contending for the divisional crown in ’13 with a realistic shot at the Super Bowl.
The team’s success is going to come with who they can get on defense in the draft and if they can upgrade the offensive line. It’s safe to say they will be playing in prime time more next year as well.
