NFL Rumors: Will Rob Ryan Lose His Third Job in a Month?
Back when the Dallas Cowboys fired Rob Ryan as their defensive coordinator, he famously told reporters he’d be out of work for “like 5 minutes.” Those five minutes have passed and now Ryan maybe on the verge of losing his third job in a month.
Here’s where the story gets weird for Ryan and everyone else–according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Ryan was hired tonight by the New Orleans Saints to be their defensive coordinator. However, Larry Holder of the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports that Ryan will interview Friday and University of Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham will interview on Thursday. So Ryan has not landed the job in New Orleans as reported, just like he wasn’t hired in St. Louis after rumors surfaced that the St. Louis Rams had hired Ryan to coach their defense. As usual, there is a lot of talk around Rob Ryan, but nothing actually happens, kind of like his defenses.
Why is it that confusion always seems to surround Ryan? His defense is built on confusing the quarterback, but he ends up just confusing his own players. There is still confusion over who fired Ryan in Dallas and now there is confusion over where his next job will be.
So here we all sit, waiting to see what team Ryan will land with. If he doesn’t get the coordinator position in New Orleans, it will be the third time in a month that Ryan seemingly had a job but lost it.
I guess five minutes doesn’t mean what it used to.
