Will the New Orleans Saints Win the NFC South in 2013?

The argument can be made that if Sean Payton were on the sidelines for the 2012 season, the New Orleans Saints would have been one of the top contenders in the NFC. Instead, the team struggled to bounce back from a disappointing 0-4 start and finished the year with a 7-9 record.

Now that Payton is back on the sidelines–does this Saints team have what it takes to be one of the top contenders heading into 2013?

As long as Drew Brees is healthy, this team is always going to be seen as one of the top contenders in the NFL and there’s no question he’ll be motivated more than ever with the way things turned out last season. The defense certainly needs a ton of work, but New Orleans contained the league’s top passing unit in 2012 and that doesn’t seem like it’s going to go away any time soon.

Expectations were high for the Saints heading into this year not just because of their previous success, but because of the chance to play at home in Super Bowl XLVII. Their playoff dreams may have fell short, but expect this team to bounce back in 2013 and give the Atlanta Falcons a run for their money when it comes to winning the NFC South title.

Brees is one of the top quarterbacks in the league and as long as he’s under center–this Saints team certainly has what it takes to make a run at next year’s Super Bowl.
