Just when Dallas Cowboys fans thought things couldn’t get any worse, they did. Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones has already ruined any chance for the team to succeed in 2013, but those chances could be cut even more after reports that former Dallas defensive coordinator Rob Ryan is likely to take that position with the New Orleans Saints this year. Ryan tends to bring players with him when he moves from one NFL team to another and the prime suspect in Dallas is linebacker Anthony Spencer.

In 2011, Ryan’s first season in Dallas, the Cowboys brought in Kenyon Coleman and Abram Elam who both played for Ryan in Cleveland. The following year, Dallas briefly brought in Brodney Pool, who also played for Ryan and his twin brother, New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan.

The Cowboys used the franchise tag on Spencer last season, keeping him in Dallas as highly-paid free agent and now Dallas faces the same situation. Jones illegally backloaded a ton of contracts during the uncapped season a couple of years back, so now the Cowboys are in no condition to do what they absolutely have to–sign Spencer to a long-term deal. That means he’ll likely be allowed to walk since Dallas probably won’t even be able to afford another franchise tag.

So if Spencer is able to sign wherever he pleases, why wouldn’t he play for Ryan? All of Ryan’s players love him and it’s evident some are willing to follow him to new teams and if the Saints can fatten Spencer’s wallet, he’d be unwise not to follow his old coach to New Orleans.

Of course, this is just speculation, but it proves yet again that the Cowboys have absolutely no clue what they’re doing. Spencer’s contract is a horrible situation that will cause this team to lose a Pro Bowl defender by 2014 if not earlier and he’s not the only one. To name one high-profile player, Tony Romo‘s contract will be up soon as well and Lord knows the team doesn’t have the cap room to keep him. Clock’s ticking, Jerry.
