Had you asked me what the Chiefs would do with Bowe prior to the Andy Reid hiring I would say to let him walk, but things have definitely changed. The former Philadelphia Eagles coach loves to sling it and he will need someone to run that west coast offense with.
I have my doubts that the Chiefs will use that #1 pick on a quarterback or a wide receiver so the talent will have to come from someplace. Bowe had a subpar season in 2012 and that may play to the Chiefs advantage as other teams could stray away from a guy who has had eight touchdowns in the last two seasons.
Bowe’s three touchdowns in 2012 are not worthy for any top-notch contract, but with Reid’s commitment to the aerial attack will increase the 6-foot-2 star’s numbers tenfold this season.
Aside form Bowe the Chiefs had just one other receiver who had more than 400 yards in receiving and it was RB/WR Dexter McCluster–Kansas City can’t afford to lose their top wideout in Bowe right now.
The mystery at quarterback will only get worse if indeed Bowe leaves as the talent pool will be even shallower to any potential suitors like Alex Smith or Matt Moore.
Hopefully the Chiefs can do something special in the draft this spring, but if they let the Bowe walk the writing will be on the wall for another 2-14 season.
