NFL Rumors: Denver Broncos Should Pursue Free Agent Safety

Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

Teams all over the NFL are preparing for free agency in a month and that includes releasing players to either get under the salary cap, or to create room to sign players. It’s natural for fans to watch those cuts, especially the bigger names, and wonder if their favorite team should sign them. However sometimes a player gets released and it looks like a natural fit for one team or another.

The Buffalo Bills released strong safety, George Wilson on Monday and the Denver Broncos should be the first team to call his agent. The safety play of the Broncos was not terrible in 2012 but it wasn’t great either. The safeties as a group only had four interceptions last season and three of those came from, Jim Leonhard (2) and David Bruton (1). The starting duo of Rahim Moore and Mike Adams only had one between them. That’s not enough.

Now to be fair, Wilson did not have an interception in 2012 either but he did have 102 tackles and is widely considered one of the better players at his position. As we all know by now, the Broncos are in a win now mode and players like Wilson do not become available all that often. It’s impractical to think any team can sign every big name that is released between now and the start of free agency, but the Broncos need to inquire about Wilson.

Even if the Broncos show interest or even sign Wilson, they should not give up on Moore or Quinton Carter. They still have a future in this league and with the Broncos, but adding a player like Wilson would make the Broncos better in 2013. As long as Peyton Manning is the quarterback, everything is about winning right now.

Eli Manning Has Interesting Reaction To Broncos' Super Bowl Win

Eli Manning was captured on video making an interesting face when the Denver Broncos cemented their Super Bowl 50 win. The Internet firmly believes Eli is upset that Peyton now has two rings just like he does, but this is simply an overreaction. Eli was clearly nervous throughout the game, and his odd facial expressions are more indicative of a sign of relief than anything else.
