Dwayne Bowe is an interesting case. He’s a free agent this offseason and many have believed for quite some time that he’ll be a very rich man before the start of the 2013 NFL season. However, one NFL scout told a writer of the league’s official website that he’d be “scared to death” to sign Bowe. Can you blame him? Bowe has been as inconsistent as can be over the past couple of years.
Of course, that could change if he signs with a team that has a top-notch quarterback. However, Joe Montana can put the ball in Bowe’s hands on every play, but that doesn’t mean he’ll catch it. Bowe has had more than his share of dropped passes, especially since his magical 2010 season of 1,159 yards and a league-high 15 receiving touchdowns. In addition, he’s built a reputation around the league for being selfish.
Bowe has more catches, yards and touchdowns in garbage time than most other receivers in the league, so it’s not like he’s going to make an average team good or a good team great. The one thing Bowe can do to help improve his new team is draw defensive attention. He has the ability to make incredible plays, although they’re few and far between these days, so he’s still a very attractive option on the market, especially for a team desperate for a star receiver. However, that’s probably the only reason Bowe will sign a big contract–the team will be desperate at that point.
