The New York Giants shocked everyone when they cut running back Ahmad Bradshaw and defensive tackle Chris Canty in an attempt to get under the NFL‘s tentative $121 million salary cap for the 2013 season. However, the latest batch of NFL rumors include one from the league’s official website that suggest the Giants are just getting started with these shocking moves and that Big Blue has one goal in mind: bring in veteran running back Steven Jackson.

Now Jackson technically isn’t a free agent…yet. The final year of his contract with the St. Louis Rams is voidable and everyone has just assumed for quite some time that he would take the option to leave the team a year early and test the market. This latest rumor suggests the Giants strongly believe Jackson will void the final year and the $7 million salary that would go with it and New York is supposedly planning on all-out mission to sign him.

Again, this is just a rumor with no confirmed source, but it makes sense after the Giants cut Bradshaw and the shaky rookie season they saw from David Wilson. Andre Brown turned in a nice season as another backup to Bradshaw, but the Giants aren’t set on either youngster as a starter moving forward, assuming this rumor holds any truth whatsoever. One thing is for certain in all of this: Giants fans know Jackson would look really good in a New York uniform.
