Speculation regarding Green Bay Packers free agent receiver Greg Jennings is already out of control, but there is one constant in all of the latest NFL rumors: the Miami Dolphins appear to be frontrunners to sign him. Multiple large sports media networks have already claimed several “sources” are indicating the Dolphins are “all in” on Jennings and will use a large chunk of their tremendous amount of salary cap space to bring him to South Beach.
The Dolphins have struggled in their search for a top receiver, going through big names like Brandon Marshall and Chad Johnson with not much success. Now that they have a promising young quarterback in Ryan Tannehill, it’s time they get some weapons around him to make their offense relevant again.
Of course, they could start by re-signing Brian Hartline with the more than $40 million in cap space they currently have, but he’s been there and he’s not enough. A guy like Jennings would provide Tannehill with an escape route while he’s still growing as a passer and then a surefire No. 1 target once he becomes a quality signal-caller.
It’s just speculation at this point, but Jennings to Miami would be a great fit financially and when it comes to X’s and O’s. The Dolphins need a top receiving threat and Jennings needs a home. And after spending so many years in the frozen tundra, who wouldn’t want a little sunshine and warmth in their life?
