Kansas City Chiefs Update: 2/15

It was a week filled with rumors, draft questions and opinions from fans.

All sources currently say that the Kansas City Chiefs are still undecided about who to draft No. 1 overall. A recent Sportsnation poll shows that 79 percent of voters believe that the Chiefs should get their starting quarterback in free agency and/or trade rather than the draft.

Brad Childress has been interviewed recently by the Chiefs. Childress was with Andy Reid in Philadelphia for six seasons. Childress worked as an offensive coordinator and a quarterbacks coach. Reid and Childress may reunite.

This week, the Chiefs recently added three players to their roster. The three players are wide receiver Marshawn Gilyard, tight end Kevin Brock and defensive end Marcus Dixon. All three players will most likely have minor roles in 2013, or be cut before the season starts. If they impress coaches this off-season they could make the cut. If cut, a cap hit would be almost nothing, as all three players are signed at a low price.

Good news for Chiefs fans, the Chiefs and Dwayne Bowe‘s representatives and agents are “discussing a new deal.” Bowe has been a standout since entering the NFL in 2007. He led the league in touchdowns in 2010 with 15, and he has done it with mediocre quarterbacks throwing the ball to him. Losing a deep threat and an elite wide receiver like Bowe would be a huge loss.

A few notable players have recently become free agents. The Indianapolis Colts released long time veteran Dwight Freeney, who is is 32-years old and has 107 career sacks. The Green Bay Packers have also released a pro-bowler, as Charles Woodson will not return to the team next season. Maybe the Chiefs can make a move on one of these seasoned players and gain some leadership and experience.
