Although Nate Burleson missed more than 10 games in 2012 he still knows the Detroit Lions are inept at the running back position. On Monday the 10 year NFL veteran made his plea to one of the best running backs on the free agent market this year.

Making fun of the Miami Heat star LeBron James’ “Decision” a few Summers ago Burleson had this to say “Reggie Bush, you already took your talents to South Beach, come on to Detroit.” Although Burleson isn’t in the Lions Public Relations he still knows how to make quite the pitch.

Bush turned his career around while with the Miami Dolphins and because of it he is set to make quite a bit of money this offseason. Whether it’s Detroit or not Bush will likely be the highest paid running back in this free agent class with Ahmad Bradshaw a close second.

The interesting part of Burleson’s comments was that he seemingly called out the Lions current offensive attack and running backs in particular telling Bush “you can do wonders for us” perhaps this is me digging too deep, but it’s definitely not a ringing endorsement of the current backs with the Lions.

In 2011 the team went out and drafted Mikel Leshoure in the second round hoping he’d be the teams first 1,000 yard rusher since Kevin Jones in 2004. Leshoure played in 14 games last season and rushed for 798 yards in what his first NFL action as his rookie campaign was derailed by an ankle injury.

Burleson has been with the Lions for three seasons and has offered up his opinion from time to time, however I don’t see this kind of statement going over very well in the Lions locker room.
