That always seems to be the question going into the annual Scouting Combine if there is a franchise quarterback that will emerge this year. Last year fans were spoiled because we got three: Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III, and Russell Wilson. This year we won’t see the instant mega-star franchise quarterback, however there are two quarterbacks that could be franchise quarterbacks if developed properly.

The first one is Brad Sorensen (pictured above) whom has the prototypical size at 6′ 5″ 235 lbs. and  product of the Southern Utah Thunderbirds whom has an insanely rapid release that could yield benefits at the next level if he gets to sit and learn for a season or two and develop other skills that aren’t as elite as others such as in observe NFL game speed. Another knock on him besides the level of competition which is obvious since he didn’t go to a powerhouse school is that he isn’t overly athletic and won’t run people over despite his size. Sorensen should be picked anywhere between the third and the fifth round in the 2013 NFL Draft.

The other quarterback is Geno Smith (pictured below) who played for the West Virgina Mountaineers whom is 6′ 3″ 215 lbs. and has an absolute cannon for a throwing arm. Despite the arm strength, Smith has shown great touch and poise throw through the tightest of windows. Smith would have been a 3-time all Big East quarterback, but West Virginia left for the Big-12 and did fairly well for themselves. Despite playing in the spread offense, Smith should flourish at the next level as he is an intelligent quarterback who will adapt to his surroundings, provided he has an excellent coach to groom him properly. Smith should be picked in the top ten of the 2013 NFL Draft, however it’s extremely likely he would go to the Kansas City Chiefs with the number one overall pick.
