After question came out about where he stood in the league when it came to the top wide receivers, Calvin Johnson was a man on a mission during the 2012 season with the Detroit Lions as he wanted to prove he deserved to be in the category of the top-five wideouts–if not the best. After breaking the single-season receiving record, nobody is questioning Johnson anymore–especially when taking into consideration the injury he may have been dealing with throughout 2012.

NFL rumors are swirling this week about how Johnson played most of the season with at least two broken fingers–which makes the record even more impressive for Johnson. It’s one thing to play through an injury, but for a player like Johnson to play most of the season with broken fingers and still finish with 122 catches for 1,964 yards and five touchdowns is nothing short of amazing.

Johnson was out to make a statement last season when it comes to being the league’s top wide receiver and the scary factor–imagine what his numbers would have been like if he wasn’t playing with broken fingers. If he can display these types of numbers with broken fingers, there’s no telling what to expect from Johnson in 2013 as he enters hi seventh season with the Lions.

After everything he accomplished last season, don’t be surprised if Johnson looks to set a new personal goal for himself in 2013–such as breaking the 2,000-yard receiving mark while helping Detroit bounce back from a disastrous 2012 season.
