2013 NFL Draft: Should the Buffalo Bills Consider USC Trojans QB Matt Barkley?

As much as they may not want to admit it, the last two seasons have made it clear that the Buffalo Bills made a huge mistake by giving quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick a hefty extension and with the 2013 NFL Draft quickly approaching–they may want to consider using one of their picks on a quarterback. One name that comes to mind who could turn out to be a steal–USC Trojans quarterback Matt Barkley.

Despite his decision not to throw at the NFL Combine due to a shoulder injury suffered during the 2012 season, Barkley has shown the potential to be an effective quarterback at the NFL level and while his draft stock may have fallen compared to last year–there’s a good chance he could end up being a steal for one team this year. The argument can be made that Barkley would have been a high draft pick if he didn’t decide to return to the Trojans for his senior season–so clearly the potential is there when it comes to the NFL.

Just look at what Barkley accomplished over the last two seasons at USC and there’s no question a team like the Bills would be interested in landing him in April’s draft. The fact that Barkley nearly threw for 7,000 yards to go along with 75 touchdowns from 2011-12 shows what he’s capable of at quarterback and with all of the struggles surrounding Fitzpatrick–the USC star may not be a bad choice once April rolls around.
